The goal of For You and Me (FYAM) is to include a wide variety of amenities. Some of these include an arts and crafts center, a gymnasium, a playground, bike trails, and a thrift store. The hope is that there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
The plan is to provide transitional medical help, support, rest, and recreation for families living under the constant stress of caring for a loved one. The amenities will take into consideration the disabled, as well as the other family members residing in the community. It is, after all, a family affair.
Anyone living with a disability or caring for a disabled family member knows the challenges faced 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Taking a loved one to a doctor’s appointment or even having them receive a vaccination can be challenging. Fun outings and vacations are often difficult or out of the question altogether, because treatments and medications are not something on which you can just press “pause”. It is an exhausting yet essential part of life from which there is no escape. FYAM wants to bring some of those more challenging experiences closer to home in an attempt to eliminate additional stressors. Everyone benefits when the daily grind is less cumbersome.
FYAM aims to be a place that will help everyone in the family thrive. Our goal is to provide needed medical assistance and access to recreational activities in a convenient location within one community to allow the whole family to feel supported.
For You and Me, Inc. will be a gated community designed for families with a disabled child from birth to as long as the family desires to and is capable of caring for the child. The objective is to provide medical support in transitional phases, taking into account families that have healthy children, as well. The community will offer activities and support to all involved.
The mission of For You and Me, Inc. is to create a community where families with disabled children of all ages can live and thrive, even when the parents can no longer provide care to their loved one. Guiding us in our mission are our core values:

Tam is the mom with the dream, the mastermind behind the non-profit organization For You and Me. Her son, Ben, became disabled as a result of an injury at the age of 11. She has advocated for services to provide him with relief, even when it meant crossing state borders. Tam and Rod have cared for Ben at home from the time of his injury to the present date. Additionally, she saw firsthand how this affected her youngest son Jacob and it inspired her to look for ways to make lives better for anyone dealing with a disability in their family. They know that at some point they will need help caring for him, something most families with disabled children are often faced with. She envisions families and caregivers working together to provide the services that the family desires for their loved ones while taking the entire family into consideration. FYAM provides a peace of mind for all involved as the parents of a child ages, from birth into adulthood.

Ben, our oldest son, was permanently disabled by a bully at school. As a result of his injury and ignorance of the disease, then called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) or now called, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) it spread from his leg throughout his entire body. To complicate matters it is an invisible disease. He is extremely fragile, but looks like a linebacker. ALL of his senses are extremely hypersensitive to say the very least, that includes, touch, sight and hearing. For example, an unexpected loud noise can cause such severe pain it can result in Ben passing out. It makes for a very lonely and isolated life. The stress of protecting Ben is ever present and a difficult task. We have learned if it isn’t cancer that the majority of people don’t have much understanding or ability to acknowledge it is a debilitating condition or can hurt that bad To add to the mix it is a FAMILY affair. The siblings of such situations are subjected to much stress as well. Our youngest son Jacob suffered in many other ways because of the stress and sadness that this caused. We live the life of a hospital 365 24/7. We have and continue to fight with insurance, etc. We know and understand very well the challenges families such as ours face day in and day out. This is the Reader’s Digest version of our story. Please know this dream comes from my heart and has been one for over 2 decades. I would deeply appreciate your consideration in helping us make this dream a reality to better the lives of those facing such challenges. Together it is possible. Remember life can change in an instant…ours did.
Thanks for your time and consideration,
Sincerely,
Tam
